Romance Book Review: Beltran

Author: Erin O’Riordan
ISBN: 978-1-897559-57-4
Genre: Fantasy/Paranormal

YYYY

Life takes a lot of twists and turns and there are never any guarantees. Beltran is a delightful tale of two twin sisters and where life takes them. Allie believes that she had found the man of her dreams and is ready to settle down. On the day of her wedding she asks her twin, Zen two check her fiancee, Paul Phillip's, feelings for her. Zen finds that the man loves her sister, but he is hiding something. The wedding takes place as planned.

As life goes on, Zen meets a man who is very unhappy and conflicted. She falls in love with him, but isn't sure if she is the woman for him.

What really makes this story is the quirky, likeable characters. No one is perfect and those in the story don't pretend to be, but even when they don't follow the normal path, the readers can still like them.

Description:
Twin sisters Allie and Zen have always shared everything: including an unconventional upbringing at Pagan Spirits Farms. They even fall in love at the same time.

Pagan priestess Allie thinks she's met the man of her dreams in her buttoned-down lawyer fiancee, Paul Phillip. But is he everything he seems?

Zen, a witch gifted with the sixth sense, falls for Orlando. But there's a catch: Orlando is married to someone else. As the celebration of Beltane nears, the sisters seem destined to be unlucky in love.

But the Goddess moves in mysterious ways, and May Day may turn out to be magic for them after all.

Romance Book Review: Decadent Deceptions

Author: Keta Diablo
ISBN: 978-1-60592-013-9
Genre: Historical Romance

YYYY

Decadent Deceptions is an erotic historical romance filled with mystery and suspense. It was an entertaining, lively story. The drama unfolds in Georgia of the 1800s where good girls kept their virginity until they married. Keeping a close watch on her, Olivia's father saves her chastity when Morgan would have made her his lover. Now years later, Olivia's father is dead and Olivia knows exactly what she wants, Morgan.

The only problem is that when her father dies he writes his will in a way that would mean she could never marry Morgan and keep her inheritance. So Olivia comes up with a crazy scheme. She convinces Morgan to take her to a brothel so she can choose her future husband based on his ability to please a woman. This leaves Morgan with a lot of trouble on his hands, because not only does he have to keep Olivia out of trouble, but he also winds up having to save her from a murderer who has targeted her as his next victim.

I liked the chemistry between Morgan and Olivia and the erotic scenes were very well written.

Description:
Daring and desperate to win Morgan's love, Olivia Breedlove embarks on a reckless folly. But everything backfires when Morgan remains one step ahead of her and the game ventures down a path of duplicity and murder.

A decade ago, Morgan was a heartbeat away from taking Olivia's virginity. Her father, Thaddeus, intervened and threatened to meet him over pistols if he so much as looked at his daughter again. But now, Thaddeus is dead and Morgan has no intention of ignoring the ravenous hunger he's harbored for the blasted woman for ten years.

One way or the other, he will quench this burning desire and make her his forever.

Romance Book Review: Golden Eyes

Author: Maya Banks
Series Connection: Eyes
ISBN: 978-1-59632-640-8
Genre: Paranormal/shapeshifter

YYYYY

Generally I'm open to reading any kind of romance genre, but I'd have to say my favorite is paranormal novels, especially shapeshifters. I can tell from a writer's perspective this must be very difficult to write. Especially for those who are very literal minded. There are just some people who can't step out of the box and want to over analysis everything.

As a reader, I like to put myself in the position of the characters, whether they are male or female. In this case, here is a local small town sheriff in the middle of nowhere Colorado. There is little trouble in his community aside from rowdy hunters and a few poachers ever now and then. When calls start to come in about sightings of mysterious wild animals that shouldn't be in his part of the world, Sheriff Duncan Kennedy goes out for a look see. He doesn't expect to see anything but a mountain lion, but when he comes upon a cheetah he takes pause. If that isn't bad enough when he gets the cheetah to a protected area and leaves it alone for just a few minutes and comes back and sees a woman where he left the cheetah, what is a guy suppose to think?

At this point some readers might say, please that would never happen and close the book. My active imagination wants to keep reading to see what the guy will do next. Maya Banks does a great job presenting her characters in "Golden Eyes". The opening scene where the sheriff first approaches the cheetah is excellent. Later the sheriff can do nothing but believe what he sees and as the protector of all that he is, he keeps the shapeshifters secret.

Aliyah Carver, our cheetah shapeshifter, can't trust anyone. How can she help but fall in love with Duncan who shows her an incredible amount of compassion. Oh yeah and did I mention the sex scenes? Get out the fans readers because this book will make you hot, hot, hot. As always Maya Banks is a master when she writes erotic romance. This book takes her abilities to new heights.

For those who like paranormal stories with some really outrageous love scenes and some nice action as our sheriff hunts down some nasty poachers, this is the story for you. Keep an eye out for the next Maya Banks review—"Amber Eyes", book 2 in the Eyes series—coming soon.

Description:
When Sheriff Duncan Kennedy finds an injured cheetah in his mountains, he brings it home, determined to find out how she got there and stop the poachers who were hunting her. When he later checks on the cheetah and instead finds a gorgeous, naked woman with an arrow in her leg, he's completely flabbergasted.

For six months, Aliyah Carver has been trapped in cheetah form. Taken by poachers who import exotic animals to illegally hunt, she stayed in animal form to avoid detection. She escapes the hunters, but now she faces another problem. A devastatingly sexy sheriff who now knows her secret.

Romance Book Review: Nauti Intentions

Author: Lora Leigh
Series Connection: Nauti Boys
ISBN: 0425226050
Genre: Contemporary erotic romance

YYYYY

Can you say HOT!! I've always thought that Lora Leigh had a flair for the erotic, but Nauti Intentions is right up there with the best. The love scenes in this book will send shivers down you spine and leave ladies wondering where they can get their own Major Alex Jansen. Oh Alex isn't perfect by any means, there were times in the story where I wanted to slap him upside the head, but he certainly made this story worth reading.

Janey Mackay wasn't half bad herself. The feisty Mackay daughter character was very well developed. I would have liked to have heard more about her in the previous stories, but Lora did a great job of presenting her character in this novel.

The Nauti series itself deserves high praise. I'm making my way through Lora Leigh's series and so far this one has turned out to be second on my list. My first favorite is the entire "Breed" series, which includes the cats, wolves and coyotes. I have to say though, so far I haven't found a Lora Leigh book that I totally hate. Another good series to check out by Lora is the "Bound" series. For now this one is complete, although since she added Nauti Intention, I'm wondering if we might see something that includes Rogue and the sexy sheriff?

Description:
Since he saw Janey Mackay taking a dip in her bikini, Major Alex Jansen has had to quell the fire she ignites in him. Even touching her would mean death at the hands of the Mackay men. Until now, the girl of his dreams—and fantasies—has lived in a vacuum of affection, shying away from the danger she thinks men represent. Alex sets out to prove her wrong, with his torturously slow caresses. Everyone thinks Janey's safe now, with her abusers dead. But when someone starts leaving spine-chilling notes, Alex won't rest until she's completely safe. And completely his—body and soul.

In early 2000, Toni made her first sale to Harlequin Temptation, and went on to expand into Harlequin's Duets line. For her, that's what writing is all about, making a connection with others

Romance Book Review: Unbroken

Author: Maya Banks
ISBN: 978-1-60504-161-2
Genre: Contemporary erotic romance

YYYYY

This is an excellent trio of stories by Maya Banks. These novels were previous released as individual e-books and now are in one full set in paperback and e-book, as well as still available in e-book individually.

The novels take place in a small town in Texas where several friends get together. The first story, Understood, is about Jake and Ellie. Jake had been in love with Ellie for a long time, but she married his best friend. He separated himself from Ellie's life as much as possible because it was just too painful to see her with his friend, but while he wasn't paying attention Ellie was going through hell.

She's divorced now and Jake is just waiting for her to come to terms with what happened in her marriage to be ready for him. When she is ready look out because she's his and Jake has no intention of letting her go.

In Overheard Luke has been interested in Gracie for a long time, but he finally gets the nerve to do something about it when he overhears her talking to her friend about her sexual fantasies. Now with help of his friend Wes, he is going to fulfill her dreams and hopefully fulfill some of his own as well.

And lastly in Undenied, Wes gets the shock of his life when he sees a woman from his past. He doesn't quite know how to handle the fact that he's attracted to her, but when he's with her all he can remember is their one and only time together as teenagers. Wes remembers it as the most embarrassing sexual experience of his life.

Payton remembers it a little differently. She sets out to show Wes that she is no longer the little virgin she was when they last saw each other. Her plans of seduction work and as they get to know each other, Wes isn't so sure what he wants to do about her. He likes his life the way it is, but he isn't sure he wants to be without Payton in his life.

Maya Banks is easily one of the top writers in the erotic romance genre. The way she writes love scenes will make even the most hard-core blush and others wish they were the characters in the scenes. By themselves or all together these stories are worth the read.

Description:
Three stories from the pen of Maya Banks!
Undenied
Payton is the last woman Wes ever expected or wanted to see again. He’s come a long way since their awkward teenage encounter, and his ego needs no reminder. Payton harbors no such reservations about catching up on old times, if she could just get him over his mental block. But that’s nothing a blindfold and a little mad seduction scheme can’t fix…

Overheard

Gracie is tired of the men in her life never fulfilling her vivid sexual fantasies. When Luke overhears her talking about what she really wants, he’s stunned—and very turned on. So Gracie thinks no man alive can satisfy her? He aims to prove her wrong.

Understood

Jake made the ultimate mistake—falling in love with Ellie, his best friend’s wife. Distance was the only solution, but it prevented him from seeing what a bastard his friend turned out to be. Now Ellie is free from the bondage of her past, and Jake waits. Needing, wanting, and ready for her when she spreads her wings.

Product Warnings
This title contains explicit sex, graphic language, mad seduction schemes, drop-dead sexy hunks, and a menage a trois.

Romance Book Review: Nauti Dreams

Author: Lora Leigh
Series Connection: Nauti Boys
ISBN: 0425219518
Genre: Contemporary erotic romance

YYYYY

The third and best book so far in the Nauti Boys series. I just fell in love with Natches. He's a guy who has been through hell and back. He becomes an assassin for the Marines and expects that's all will ever come of his life. Then at the end of a mission he intercepts a call for help and goes in guns blazing to rescue a female Intelligence officer, Chaya, in Iraq.

Four years later Chaya is working for Homeland Security when she meets Natches again. Chaya (Greta) is first seen in the second book of the series Nauti Nights. A year later she comes back in town to continue the investigation into arms dealing. Her boss, Timothy, is also back. Timothy hasn't given her all the details, but knowing him as she does Chaya is worried about what he's up to, especially when he tells her to keep the Mackay's out of her investigation.

Now she has Natches and his cousins even more curious about what she's doing. But what she's even more concerned about is being around Natches again. She knows that once he gets her back, he won't be letting her go.

I've liked all three books in the Nauti Boy series, but this one was my favorite of the three. It had an interesting plot that went past the fabulously sexy love scenes. The plot was well written and executed well.

It doesn't seem like in the beginning, Lora Leigh had planned to have a fourth book, but next up is Nauti Intentions. I'll be sorry to see the end of the nauti Mackay boys, but at least we got one more chance to hear about them.

Description:
Third in a sizzling trilogy by the New York Times bestselling author of Nauti Boy and Nauti Nights.

Natches Mackay separated himself from his family years ago, except for the two cousins who gave him the only family he'd known. Now he's being dragged back into his father's life in ways that could destroy him and the one woman who tempts him beyond reason: Government Agent Chaya Dane, who has fought to put her own past behind her. A mission in Somerset, Kentucky, brings her back into the dreams of Natches—and into the shadows cast by his father, suspected in the theft of government missiles. And it could cost Chaya more than she ever imagined.

Romance Book Review: Nauti Nights

Author: Lora Leigh
Series Connection: Nauti Boys
ISBN: 042521740X
Genre: Contemporary erotic romance

YYYYY

Blackmail is such a dirty business, but after eight years of waiting on the one woman he really wanted, James "Dawg" Mackay couldn't wait any longer. He had Crista Jansen right where he wanted her. For years Dawg had been having vivid dreams of what he wanted to do to Crista, but every time he tried to get close to her she backed away. Then suddenly eight years ago she just took off and moved in with another man in another state. Now she's back and in trouble and Dawg will stop at nothing to keep her safe, as well as have his way with her, every way possible.

Crista remembers things a little bit differently. Perhaps that's because Dawg doesn't remember what happened the one and only night they shared together. Even though she could never forget Dawg that is exactly what she sets out to do. Unfortunately, that isn't what happens and after eight years she decides to sweep the ghosts out of her past.

Now she's been home for over a year and suddenly strange things are happening to her. Then one day she goes on, what she thinks is, a simple errand to turns into bullets being fired all around her. It turns out the one who saves her is the one man she can't forget Dawg.

I liked the second story in the Nauti Boys series, Nauti Nights, a little better than the first. The characters were a little stronger and the buildup of the mystery was nicely executed. At first I was a little concerned that I wouldn't like the blackmail angle to the story, but Dawg more than redeems himself throughout the story. I like Crista too. She's been thrown to the wolves and in a desperate situation that isn't of her own making. She's smart and sassy, which I love in a heroine. Dawg is the ultimate Nauti Boy, especially in the love scenes. So far this series is really good.

I love series books and reading them one right after the other is more fun for me than waiting a few months for the next one to come out. So I'm off to read the next book in this series "Nauti Dreams."

Description:
James "Dawg" Mackey has lusted after sweet Crista Jansen for years. Just as many as she's spent running from him—and from that dangerous attraction that shot like a spark through her whole body. But now for Crista, running isn't an option anymore because Dawg's got a plan. It's kind of low-down. And kind of hot.
Blackmail is a dirty word, but Dawg will use it if that's what it takes to get Crista where he wants her. His hungers are too hard and fierce not to. He doesn't realize that Crista has a longing too. She's knows what he's up to, what he's capable of. He didn't get that nickname for nothing. And before the night is through, Crista's making him work for it.

Romance Book Review: Nauti Boy

Author: Lora Leigh

ISBN: 0425214133
Genre: Contemporary Romance/Suspense/Erotic Romance

YYYY

Rowdy Mackay has waited a long time for Kelly Benton to grow up. He had always known he was going to claim her, but knew she was too young for what he wanted from her, so he enlisted in the Marines and bided his time. Now years later he's back to stake his claim, but is he too late?

Kelly has loved Rowdy since he saved her from a bunch of bullies in the playground when she was nine years old. She had been saving herself for him, until one tragic night everything went wrong. After a brutal attack, Kelly isn't the same girl that Rowdy left behind.

Since her attack Kelly has been hiding away, while the man who attacked her stalks her with phone calls and watches her every move. Rowdy won't sit back and wait for something to happen, he's a take-charge man, but can he keep Kelly safe from the insane man who wants to own her?

I've been anxiously awaiting Lora's new "Breed" series book and found that it wouldn't be out until August, so I decided it was time to check out one of her other series I hadn't read and came across this four book series. (I know they called it a trilogy originally, but I found a fourth book, "Nauti Intentions" was released in early April.) These books are similar to the August brother's series, but not as dark. As a matter of fact the MacKay cousins are related to the Augusts.

So far this is shaping out to be a good series, written in Lora's normal erotic style. The heroes are strong and possessive and the heroines are feisty and adventurous. It will be interesting to see how the rest of the series shapes up.

Description:
First in a trilogy that crosses the boundaries of erotic fiction-from the bestselling author of Megan's Mark.

Too weak to resist young Kelly Benton's attempts at seduction, Rowdy Mackay left home eight years ago. Duty as a U.S. Marine put a safe distance between temptation and the nubile Kentucky vixen. Now he's back home and ready to engage in the kind of erotic games that have earned him and his two cousins a Nauti-boy reputation in three counties.

Once it was Kelly's dream too-to feel the heat of the boy she desired. But an attack from a stalker still on the prowl has left Kelly terrified of a man's touch. Now as fear and desire converge, Rowdy fights to save her from the deadly threats of a stranger, to rid her of her demons, and to satisfy a hunger more powerful than either can imagine.
