Stress from being a single mother and on her own with no one to rely on, Andy Martin is having a breakdown in her apartment hallway when Matt Johnson come upon her. Deciding he can't leave the poor woman and her baby alone when they so need help Matt helps Andy make it through the latest crisis. Through the next few weeks the two begin to spend time together, however someone doesn't want Matt to have his happy ever after with Andy.

This is the first book I've read by A.C. Wilson. While I really liked the writing style a few times she seemed to change writing style from free flowing to a change in tense. It is really hard to describe, but it changed the flow of the story. Otherwise I thought the characters were nicely developed and I grew to love them all. I am looking forward to see what happens to Matt's brother in the next book.

Description:

Genre: Paranormal, Shifter, Werewolf, Erotic Romance, Menge
Publisher: Talesin Publishing

After divorcing her cheating husband, Anna is ready to start a new life and moves to a small town where she hopes to settle in her once weekend home and take on the job as an elementary school teacher. When she gets to her new home everything seems to be going wrong. Her house has been sold to two gorgeous men and her lease is up. No place to live is only the tip of the iceberg.

The minute step brothers and co-alpha werewolves, Colton and Marc meet Anna they know she's their mate that they are suppose to share. When they hear the story that her house was sold to them without her knowledge they know that this is there chance to get her to know them better.

As more things begin to go wrong in Anna's life, Colton and Marc begin to suspect that everything is connecting and someone is after Anna, could it be her ex-husband or is there someone else upset at Anna.

Good story with good characters. If I had one complaint it would be that the story ended way to quickly. I would have like to have seen the characters more developed and looked a little more into the life of the alphas. As usual I like this author and will be looking for new books in the future.

Description:
Anna Belky happily walked away from her ex, the lying cheating bastard she caught in her own bed with Miss “Candy Apple.” Anna’s supposed to be getting her revenge by being deliriously happy with a new job and a beautiful house on the lake.

Instead she finds herself without financial resources and homeless when someone sabotages her perfect new life. And even weirder, two strangers invite her to live with them, both of them, and be their love. Two sexy and way-too-hot-for-their-own-good strangers.

Marc Newberry and Colton Montross are half-brothers and the ruling alphas of the local shifter pack. Imagine their surprise when they discover the house they just bought belongs to the one woman in the world fated to be their shared mate. Of course, she has her quirks, like chattering on about nothing when she gets nervous, she won’t follow orders worth a damn, and has even dug a hole in their backyard.

Despite these glitches, the trio’s shared bond is hot enough to melt the polar icecap, and their growing love for each other is undeniable. But their mating could be only a fleeting joy. As the bad luck following Anna begins to grow from annoying to downright dangerous, will they survive to meet Fate’s demands?

Let me know what you think of Overcome!

Romance Book Review: Mandy M Roth's Tactical Magik

Genre: Fae, Magik, Were, Shifter, Erotic Romance
Publisher: The Raven Books

Eadan Daley is just making his new home with the I-Ops group of supernatural shifters when his old boss asks him to come back and take on a solo mission without bringing his new teammates with him. As it turns out this mission is very personal to Eadan and he feels the pressure to hurry to find the missing supernatural that the PSI group is looking for. Once he finds her there is a whole lot of bad situations that the two get into.

As an Immortal Ops series book goes, this book pretty much falls into the same realm as the previous four books. Eadan is a little different from the other I-Ops readers have met in the past as he is Fae and not a shifter and that through previous books we've gotten to know him a little more.  As with the other stories a little more character development would have helped us to understand Inara a little more, but it is clear she has lived off her wits with the help of a mentor for some time now and she's a strong alpha female, although we might get the idea she's a pushover by how she is first represented.

Description:

Eadan Daly has thrown himself into the role as the sixth I-Ops team member and has forged a brotherhood of sorts with the other men. When he’s asked to go on a solo mission for the PSI Branch (Paranormal Security and Intelligence) he’s not so sure he wants his old job back.

Inara Nash is a survivor, doing what she must to get by. On the run for years, from an organization she doesn’t fully understand, she tries to stay below the radar. When a blond hunk arrives and claims he’s her savoir, she suspects her luck might have finally run out. Sure, he’s hot and looks like he’d be good in bed but there is something almost magical about him that defies reality. And if there is one thing she’s learned in her life in the paranormal underground it’s you never trust a magik.

This four book set covers the first four books of Immortal Ops series. The stories features four of the seven I-Op members and continues on with three more books left in the series.

Immortal Ops tells the story Lukian Vlakhusha, King of the Werewolves, and Peren Matthews. Lukian and his team are sent to kill Peren. That is until Lukian decides something is wrong with the mission and aborts the mission, but decides to get to know Peren only to quickly realize she is his mate. The two race against time to figure out who decided her life needed to end, only to find someone from Lukian's past.

In Critical Intelligence, readers get to hear the story of Lukian's brother and second in command, Roi and Missy Carter. Roi is taken with Missy from the first time they met, but she doesn't like him so much, especially since Lukian and Roi kidnap Missy and her friends. Missy has a secret that she doesn't want to get out and goes along with the men. Soon Roi will figure out that Missy is more than she seems and trouble is on its way.

In Radar Deception, Dr. Green is a genius and can't get his mind off of Melanie. Green knows heartache and is still stuck in the past when his wife and child died because he didn't know that getting her pregnant would kill her. Melanie needs his help but can Green step out of the past long enough to do what he needs. Soon it turns out that Green and the other I-Ops have got it all wrong and there is much more to Melanie than meets the eye. They still all have their hands full making sure she is kept safe from an old Fae, who wants to get his hands on her.

In Strategic Vulnerability, Wererat Wilson Rousseau has been missing for several months and everyone appears to given him up for dead, except for the I-Op's mates who decide to take it upon themselves to go on a hunt to find him.

Meanwhile, Wilson is doing everything he can to stay alive, when his kidnapper's decide to run some experiments on him and a seemly human woman, Kimberly, who is more than likely Wilson's mate, or at least that is what he understands from his captors. They've got Wilson so drugged up it is taking all he can to get himself and Kimberly to safety. Wilson doesn't know it yet, but Kimberly just might have a little something up her sleeve to help them get away.

The Immortal Ops books aren't a bad series. I even went along and purchased the next book in the series, Tactical Magik, however I would have to say that the characters are a bit underdeveloped, almost to the point that they were all too similar. I would have liked to have seen more individuality between the characters. Otherwise, I liked the story line, including the various shifters, Fae and action situations.

Description:

Contains:
1. Immortal Ops
2. Critical Intelligence
3. Radar Deception
4. Strategic Vulnerability

Immortal Ops
Captain Lukian Vlakhusha is having issues with his newest target, Peren Matthews. Something about her has left him staring at her picture and wondering what it would be like to touch her soft skin. When the time comes for the team to strike, Lukian senses danger and aborts the mission. He makes an attempt at meeting Peren and is set in his place by an independent young woman who knows what she is, and isn't, looking for in a man.

Lukian is having trouble telling Peren that he's what she fears most, a werewolf. Can they make the passion that burns between them last, or will Lukian's condition be too much for Peren?

Critical Intelligence
Missy Carter leads a rather boring, overworked life as a system analyst for the State Department or rather, that's what she lets everyone believe. No, in reality her life is anything but boring. As an agent with the Paranormal Security and Intelligence, she's seen and done it all. Intelligence is her specialty, assassination is her hobby. The only problem is that the things she spies on don't die easily. In fact, some of them were dead to begin with. She's learned to handle anything life can throw at her. That is until the biggest paramilitary pain her ass shows up again. Lucky for him, he's sexy.

Roi Majors, second in command of the I-Ops, is having a hard time believing that Intel can only get half the information needed to bring down an underground ring of vampires with big spending backers who are hell bent on creating a race of supernaturals with multiple strands of DNA in them. As the team searches for answers, Roi searches for sexual release. When he finds himself paired with the one woman in the world who seems immune to his self-proclaimed charms, he can't wait to see her to safety and then bid her good riddance. He never counted on falling in love with her. And he sure in the hell never counted on her claiming to be an agent with a branch of the government no human should know about.

Radar Deception
Dr. Thaddeus Green survived a werepanther attack long ago, leaving him immortal and a member of the I-Ops team. He's dedicated his life to genetics and to serving his country. After his mutated DNA led to the death of his loved ones, he vowed to never let anyone close to his heart again. Try as he might, Green is unable to stop the mystical pull to the tall, leggy blonde with a sharp tongue and an even worse bite. Thinking Melanie is suffering from mating withdraw, Green is prepared to do what he must to assure her survival, even if it means claiming her for himself, regardless of his need to protect his heart. Little does Green know that fate has been preparing him for Melanie Daly all his unnaturally long life.

When ghosts from the past resurface, in ways he never dreamt possible, the normally mild-mannered scientist finds himself drawing on his inner beast and rage to assure his mate and their future are protected. But even Green can't fight all of Melanie's battles for her. Some she has no choice but to face on her own. Can their bond stand the test of time?

Strategic Vulnerability
Held prisoner in remote testing facility in the middle of the Brazilian rainforest, subjected to torture and abuse, Wilson Rousseau has long since given up hope of being rescued.

Romance Book Review: Liliana Rhodes' Charming The Alpha

Author: Liliana Rhodes
Series Connection: The Crane Curse
ISBN: N/A
Genre: Paranormal, Witches, Romance
Publisher: Jaded Speck Publishing

Purchase Link: Amazon

Each full moon Hannah Crane visits her grandmother deep in the woods where she meets a wolf, but this isn't the story of Little Red Riding Hood, even if there is a hooded cape involved in the story. Hannah is a witch and her grandmother, Pea, died sometime back, but with the help of a witches rock circle and Hannah special powers can bring Pea back to speak with her on the night of the full moon.

When Pea was still alive she kept telling Hannah she had to cut her hair, never explaining why. On this night in the woods, Pea is more worried then ever about Hannah's long hair especially because of what she sees in the woods behind Hannah.

Talk about town is that there are werewolves and shifters all over the area, but Hannah never listened to rumors, now she's about to find out she should have paid attention before.

Caleb Overstreet is the alpha of his pack and worried because several members of his pack have turned up missing lately. Patrolling the woods at night, he meets Hannah in the woods. He falls instantly under her spell, but Hannah didn't put a spell over him and the woods are dangerous at night. Determined to forget the beautiful witch in the woods, Caleb continues his patrols.

Keeping Hannah out of his thoughts is harder than he realized and now he has to protect her any way he can because someone else is interested in Hannah as well.

Good start to a three book series featuring an interesting couple and storyline that I haven't read a hundred times before. I like the family history angle to the story. My only complaint is the leads didn't spend enough time together to really get a sense if they would be good together or not.

Description:
Hannah Crane just graduated college, lives at home with her mom, and has no idea what to do with her life. One night while visiting her grandmother, she’s startled by a wolf and everything changes.

In the forest investigating a recent rash of murders and missing shifters, werewolf Alpha Caleb Overstreet doesn’t expect to run into a human, let alone a witch. Especially not one whose scent tells him she is his other half…or is she?

As the secrets of her ancestry are revealed, Caleb and Hannah are unable to stay away from each other and Hannah finds herself in danger. A rival pack believes her to be at the center of a curse that would enable them to control other shifters. But is Hannah the wolf charmer they believe her to be? Or is she really Caleb’s fated mate?

Romance Book Review: Anna J McIntyre's Coulson's Wife

Author: Anna J McIntyre
Series Connection: The Coulson's Series
ISBN: 978-1494244675
Genre: Romance, 1920s Historical Romance, American Historical Romance

Publisher: CreateSpace Independent Publishing Platform

This compelling romance is definitely a deviation of my usual reading choice. The story begins in the early 1900s when when Mary Ellen is pushed into an arranged marriage with a wealthy businessman. When she first enters into the marriage she realizes she isn't in for a life that she had once imagined. While she isn't abused in her, she is forced to make her own happiness. Leaving her husband Randall is not an option, but over the years she does adapt and find love if not in the conventional way.

This is the first in a several book series. The author says that some books are not necessary to read the previous books to read, however each seems to have it's own interesting mystery and tell the story of several generations of a powerful family. The final book takes place in modern day and goes back to a mystery that involves three generations of the family.

I love how the author in Coulson's Wife handles the last decades of Mary Ellen's life and how she describes her family's life. Great story for those who like American Historical reads.

Description:

The beginning of the Coulson Empire, 1918:

Mary Ellen's father didn't trade her for a house-exactly. Marrying the wealthy and handsome Randall Coulson is not something Mary Ellen wants to do, but being the obedient daughter she agrees to the marriage.

Randall Coulson wants Mary Ellen for one reason-to give him sons. He has no desire to form a bond of love or friendship with his young bride. His own heart is already taken.

A bittersweet story of love, lies and family secrets, taking place during a turbulent period of American history, when the perception of women and their role in society changed in one woman's lifetime.

Cole is a Demon Chaser sent on a mission to find out why humans are being killed by Demon Wolves. For no apparent reason the Demon Wolves seemed to be going against a very old treaty that has kept them from killing humans.

When Cole and his sister Ash come upon the Demon Wolf Alpha attacking a human female, they run to her aide. Taking her as far away from the Demon Wolf as possible seems the best recourse. Cole never thought that falling in love with the innocent woman would be part of the plan.

Katy is suddenly kidnapped a local deli. She is thrown into a world she knows nothing about and she's not sure who to trust. Cole could be everything he says he is or the one out to kill her. Taking the chance in hopes of staying alive she goes along with his plans.

While I liked the story and the world that the author is building, I found that the story was just too short to get to really see if these two would make a good couple. Attraction is one thing, but can they make it in the long haul, is quite another.

The one good thing about this book is that purchasing it in ebook form can give you a free look at whether you like the writing style of the author and if you want to read along with the rest of the series.

Description:
Demon Chasers…Protectors of humanity. Sworn to uphold the peace. Oath bound to keep the existence of demons a secret.

Katy is an ordinary girl living an ordinary life…until she’s abducted and for no apparent reason.

Demon Chaser Cole rescues Katy from the claws of the Alpha of a resident demon wolf pack. Hunted by Bain and his pack, Cole must try and find out why the werewolves are willing to risk a two hundred year long standing agreement with the Demon Chasers in order to have her. Bain is a cruel SOB who’s had run-ins with the Demon Control Agency before so whatever the reason, it’s sure to be depraved.

The Chaser suspects that Katy is not as innocent as she seems. Cole had better unravel this mystery fast because the shifters are closing in and more importantly, the longer he’s with Katy the more impossible he finds it to resist her. Cole’s been burned before and it almost cost him his career. He’ll be damned if he lets it happen again.

Now a freighter pilot, Selina is sent to pick up a load on a Federation planet. While there she runs into a spot of trouble and a man she helped saved and fell in love with during the war. The only problem was he was on the other side.

Searching for her, he is alerted that Selina has been arrested. He must figure out how to save her from her current trouble and keep her with him for good.

Good story building and characters in this first of three books. I'm interested in seeing where the author is going to take the rest of the story. My only complaint is that the story runs short and rather than showing some aspects of the conclusion, simply just glosses over them.

Description:
Forced apart by war five years ago, Renjiro and Selina have another chance at love. Can they make it work or does fate have other plans?

Without the citizenship of the Federation, Indy pilot Selina Codecko is treated like a second-class citizen. When she gets caught up in a bar brawl she's arrested and finds herself in the hands of the Justice Officers.

Neither wanting to be alone on Christmas, Niki and Dean get together for a sex fest on Christmas. From the start Dean realizes that Niki is his mate, but when he says so out loud in sleepy passion Niki knows that is her que to leave. Three months later Dean estranged brother comes and tell Dean that his pregnant mate is in trouble and they most go and rescue her.

Niki has always known that she can't have a normal life and bringing a mate, or a baby in her life would be a disaster. There is something about Dean that she can't stop thinking about and when he pushes himself back into her life will she ever be able to let him go as she knows she should.

This is a good story with excellent characters, but, even though the author expanded it from the short White Cougar Christmas, there are still a lot of room for more details and a continuing story. It would be interesting to have some more time with Niki's background and family and more time for Niki and Dean to get together more.

Overall I like this series and this book, I just want more.

Description:

Dean had a family once. Until tragedy and betrayal consumed them. Now he lives on his own terms keeping life simple and carefree. Then one night leads to one bite and he's forced back into a dangerous world that reminds him he's still as angry as ever and this time he's not leaving until he gets what he wants. Niki.

Niki Harris has lived a life of secrets and solitude with no interest in making a change. But an easy one night stand turns complicated and she finds herself marked. Now she has to decide, tell the sexy shifter with a possessive streak a mile wide she's pregnant and in danger or do what she's always done--run.

Hairstylist Sinclair Jeffries agrees to pose as her best friend, Jesse's, girlfriend at his parents 25th Anniversary weekend as a favor. Jesse is worried that his parents won't approve of his gay lifestyle and hopes that by seeing him with a woman they won't find out. During the weekend Sinclair meets Jesse's dysfunctional family. His mother is a bit of a prude, his father is an adulterer and his brother, Reed, is not only gorgeous but also very much engaged.

Sinclair can't help but fall a little for the sexy Reed.

Reed is having big time second thoughts about his engagement. He pretty much is at the point where he can't even remember why he want to settle down with the woman in the first place. Then there is Sinclair. The woman is driving him crazy, but he has a lot of obstacles to get through before he can even pursue her. He'll not only need to figure out things with his fiance, and find out what Sinclair is doing with his brother, but there is someone else out there hellbent on getting his hand on Sinclair as well.

This story is told in the first person in three different character's point of view. This writing style isn't one of favorites, but it is easy to keep tracks of the characters. I liked the story and it's execution, however, I think that suspenseful scenes was rushed through too much.

Description:

Sinclair Jeffries thought she knew what she was getting into when her zany, gay friend, Jesse Eddington, talked her into portraying his girlfriend during his parent's anniversary party on Huntington Beach. That is, until she met Reed, Jesse's sexy as hell older brother, and ends up getting much more than what she'd bargained for.

Reed Eddington assumed his future was settled until he met Sinclair, his brother's so-called "girlfriend", but the raw, sexual tension between them is hard to ignore. As he watches their ruse from the sidelines, he finds himself wanting to uncover more than just the amusing little facade.

Due to sexual content and heavy subject matter, this book is recommended for ages 18+

Romance Book Review: Larisa Anderson's Flight of the Hunted

Author: Larisa Anderson

Digital ISBN: 9781940744186
Genre(s): Erotic Paranormal Romance
Publisher: Beachwalk Press

Clora is a hunter of paranormal creatures that have gone rogue, but she has never met another like Kale. Kale is a crow that can shift to a human. He doesn't consider himself a shifter. He has decided that Clora is his mate and as such she will carry his young and they will fight enemies together.

The only problem is that Clora doesn't immediately know what is at stake and that a mob of crows doesn't agree with Kale staying with her. Now she has to decide quickly what she will do to keep Kale with her.

This is the second in Larisa Anderson's Hunter Series. As with the first, Taming the Hunter, this book is a very fast read that doesn't give much time to get to know the characters. The theme and the idea in this book is interesting right off the bat, changing from the standard were shifts, such as wolves, cats and bears to crows and incorporating the mob and murder mentality was enough to keep me interested through the short story. It isn't necessary to read the first book to read this story, although it is good, short read that you might want to grab both and read them in order.

Description:
Never judge a bird by his feathers.

As a hunter of paranormal creatures, Clora has encountered many kinds of shapeshifters, but Kale is like nothing she has ever come across before. He's a crow shifter and is convinced that she is supposed to be his mate—something which she finds both terrifying and exciting.

However, Kale's flock disapproves of his plan to mate with a human, and when they intervene, kidnapping him, Clora is left to wonder if he's worth hunting across the country, and if it's worth risking her life for a future they may never have.

Content Warning: contains mature language and graphic sexual content

On the night of hearing that her husband is going to leave her for another man, Jamie sets out for a drive on a long lonely highway where her car breaks down. Lucky for her one of her son's old friends is there to help. Even though he is younger, Jamie finds it hard to resist the gorgeous man.

Mark knows now isn't the time to approach Jamie with his attraction, but how can he resist the sexy lady? Where can this possibly lead?

This is a hot, well written, short erotic romance story for those who are looking for a quick story to get them through the night.

Description:
Jamie knows Mark is all wrong for her, but he's so damned hard to resist.

Jamie Shultzer's life is in a tailspin. Her husband has left her for another man, and to top it off, she's stranded on a desolate highway in the middle of Nebraska. The last thing she needs is another complication, especially when it shows up as the tall, sexy as hell, and much too young for her, Mark Adams. Though to be fair, he's only ten years too young, and she has to find some way to repay him for rescuing her.

Mark wants to be the good guy and leave Jamie alone. After all, her son is his friend and Jamie is in the middle of a divorce. But he's been smitten with her since the first time he laid eyes on her years ago. Now that she's available, it's hard to say no to her sweet tasting lips, and even harder to walk away from her willing body.

Is this the start of something wonderful, or a disaster in the making?
