Romance Book Review: Delilah Devlin's Ride A Cowboy

Author: Delilah Devlin
ISBN: 9781419905124
Genre: Contemporary Romance/ Erotic Romance
Publisher: Ellora's Cave

I purchased a new laptop last week and was going through my e-book collection when I came across this little gem. Back when I first started reading e-books on my computer Ellora's Cave was where I purchase most of my books. Now I have this vast collection of earlier works from the publisher. Delilah Devlin still has the books she published through Ellora's on their website, including Ride A Cowboy. She also has a host of new books through other publishers on her website at: www.delilahdevlin.com.

In Ride A Cowboy, Katelyn leaves her former life behind and moves to a small town in Texas. On her first day in town she meets her new neighbor Daniel. Daniel is a little young for her, but oh so sexy.

Daniel knows what he wants the minute he takes a look in Katelyn's beautiful blue eyes. He can already tell it is going to be tough for her to warm up to him. But the deputy sheriff is made of tougher stuff and will do what he can to get Katelyn to trust him.

Ride A Cowboy is a very sexy romance, featuring a younger man, older woman story line. Perfect quick read for a quite evening if your looking for something very erotic.

Description:

Katelyn Carter came to rural Texas to lick her wounds and start over after her failed marriage, but a sexy young cowboy seems determined to show her that love is still in the cards for this single librarian.

Sheriff's deputy Daniel Bodine answers a 911 call to remove a rattlesnake from his new neighbor's bedroom. What he finds is an embarrassed Katelyn, dressed in little more than her pretty pink blushes. One little omission later, and he's working for the lady as her handyman.

Burned once by a man, Katelyn fights her growing attraction but finds Daniel more temptation than she can resist. When he shows her he knows his way around a woman's body as well as he does a hammer and a saw, she takes a walk on the nasty side, vainly hoping she can keep her heart free of entanglement.

Romance Book Review: Shelly Laurenston and Cynthia Eden's Howl For It

Authors: Shelly Laurenston and Cynthia Eden
Anthology
Series Connection: Laurenston's The Mane Event/ Pride Series
ISBN: 978-0758273444
Genre: Paranormal/ Shifter/ Contemporary Romance
Publisher: Kensington Brava

If you're a Shelly Laurenston fan than you can't miss the new installment in the Pride Series series. Like a Wolf With a Bone takes readers back to the last generation of Smith wolves with a couple of characters that a mentioned throughout the series Darla Mae Lewis and Eggie Smith. Eggie is killer of the family. Whenever there is a problem that the wolves need solved Eggie is called out to do the dirty work. He is much feared throughout the series.

His daughter is Dee Ann Smith and was featured in Big Bad Beast with Ric Van Holtz. Back in the 70s Eggie was in a special unit for the Marines. On leave Eggie heads home to his brothers. Eggie meets Darla Mae for the first time when she is in the process of someone trying to kill her. Doing what he does best Eggie saves Darla Mae and takes her away to hide her from those who want to do her harm.

Knowing he isn't good enough for Darla Mae, Eggie works to keep his hands off the beautiful sister of his brothers' mates. Only maybe Darla Mae doesn't want him not to touch her.

Darla Mae has been away from the family for a while. She left because she couldn't stand the bickering between her sisters. Her boss sends her home telling her she needs time with her family. Not thinking that odd at the time, they are wolves after all and all wolves need their pack every once in a while, Darla Mae heads home, not realizing that she's being followed.

It was great to get to finally hear the story of Eggie and Darla Mae after reading about them as side characters for so long. These two are like night and day but they seem to suit each other. This story doesn't have a much humor throughout the pages, like other Shelly Laurenston books, however the continued pieces to the Smith clan make it a good read.

In Cynthia Eden's Wed or Dead, Gage and Kayla both have their secrets and are on two different ends of the spectrum, but one thing that is the same is the desire they both have for each other. On a mission for her hunter team Kayla is sent in to get as close as possible to wolf shifter Gage, even if that means marrying the man. Even if the guy is a wolf, that isn't making her want him any less.

Gage will do anything he can to keep Kayla. He knows she has a big secret she isn't sharing with him, but it doesn't matter what that is, he's keeping her.

These two may come from different worlds, but that isn't stopping them from being together, even if the leader of Kayla's group wants them both dead. Good read. The lead grips you in and just keeps the action running from there.

Description:
LIKE A WOLF WITH A BONE
Quiet little Darla Lewis couldn’t be happier when the most-feared member of the South’s rowdiest pack kidnaps her. WED OR DEAD by Cynthia Eden
Gage Ryder knew his human bride had her wild side. But spending their honeymoon night on the run from hunters out to finish him and his pack is sure not the kind of fun he was looking forward to. Romance Book Review: Lauren Dane's Alone Time

Author: Lauren Dane
Series Connection: Visits to Petal/ The Chase Brothers
ISBN: 978-1-61921-038-7
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Publisher: Samhain Publishing

One of my favorite series by Lauren Dane is back with a short series called Visits to Petal. Petal George is where the Chase Brother's series took place. In this new series Matt Chase's bride, Tate's brothers and sisters are explored. In the book Making Chase, Matt Chase meets the new love of his life Tate. The only problem is Tate comes with a big family she's been taking care of for years. Her parents are both losers and she has been emotionally abused her entire life.

The first book in this new series Once and Again tells the story of Nathan Murphy, Tate's brother and his long lost love Lily. Now in Alone Time, Nathan Murphy, Shane Chase and Matt Chase are taking advantage of grandma Polly taking care of her grandchildren (and Lily's brother staying with friends) to go out for the evening.

Since this is just a short tidbit reminding reading of the previous books in the Chase Brother's series and the relationship between the Chase's and the Murphys this book is altogether too short, but it will give you the idea of what's to come.

Description:
Visits to Petal will be bonus chapters that will accompany the print releases of all new Petal/Chase books. They’ll be continuing stories of the characters you’ve met already, just brief glimpses into their lives (and nope, not standalone). The first one will come out in September 2012, coinciding with the print release of Once and Again. The chapters will appear at the end of the print book and also be available in digital formats from Samhain and other bookstores!

Visits to Petal, Part 1 – ALONE TIME
It’s date night in Petal, Georgia, and Nathan, Matt and Shane have some long-awaited alone time with their women and they’re not about to let that opportunity go.

Warning: This free story is bonus material for readers of the Chase brothers and Petal, Georgia, series and is not intended to be standalone.

Description:
Even better, the paper book will contain bonus chapters from a mini series I’m calling VISITS TO PETAL. This installment is called ALONE TIME (and will also be available digitally for free via the Samhain website as well as for your Kindle, etc.

Seven years ago, Lily Travis was only too glad to see her hometown of Petal, Georgia in her rearview mirror. Thanks to her father running off with a twenty-year-old, though, here she is, trying to pick up the pieces. First order of business: meet with her brother’s teacher in a quest to pull his grades out of a downward spiral.

Nathan Murphy is pretty much resigned to his bachelor status—until he looks up from his desk to see an all-grown-up Lily walking into his classroom. Of all the women who turned out to be totally wrong for him, she’s the only one who felt right. At least until his foolish, immature mistake drove her away.
Lily has to admit that time has been more than kind to gorgeous, sexy Nathan. Except there’s no room on her full plate for another complication. Especially with a man who broke her heart once before.
With a little help from his friends, Nathan has a plan to rekindle the flame. It isn’t long before they’re burning up the sheets. Winning her heart? That’s another matter.

Warning: Hot, sexy high school teacher in denim and boots. Strong-willed females abound. Bad words and naughtiness, too. Come on, you know you want to read it.

Where there’s heat, there’s a smoking-hot firefighter.

Too bad she clearly has no interest in him—or so he thinks, until he sees a spark in her eyes that says she burns for him as much as he does for her. No more tiptoeing around the matter—a blatant seduction is in order.

No man lights Madison Kelly’s fire quite like Sean Adams, the firefighter she’s been hired to guard during the Boys of Beachville calendar shoot. Though he stars in her hottest, steamiest fantasies, he’s the last person she’s going to tell. An accident left its mark on her, body and soul. But when she catches Sean looking at her like she’s water for a man dying of thirst, she wonders if it’s possible he might see the girl beneath the scars.

Soon they’re igniting the sheets, but come morning Madison’s old fears and insecurities threaten to snuff the flames to ashes. Except Sean’s fuse has been lit, and he has no intention of letting her put it out. Ever

Product Warnings First rule for putting out a fire—take a firm grip on the fireman—er, the hose. Second rule depends on what kind of fire we’re talking about.

Romance Book Scene: Cherie Nicholls' Claiming Clara

Author: Cherie NichollsSeries Connection: Shifters of Hillside
ISBN 978-1-59578-962-4
Genre: Paranormal/ Shifters/ Werewolves
Publisher: Liquid Silver Books

In the second book in the Shifters of Hillside, Alpha Heath's sister Clara is in full protective mode. Clara isn't a wallflower if someone makes a threat against herself or someone in her family she's more than willing to take on the challenge and show that person, or wolf, the era in of his ways. That is of course if her brother of the man who wants to be her mate, Harvey "Wall" Wallbanger, will let her.

Wall has found the woman he wants to be his mate, but for some reason he can't convince her to take his bite and now he knows she's hiding something from him. Wall won't stop until he finds out.

Not a bad story, however, a little short. Finding out more of a background story would have been a benefit for the story. I also would have liked to see a little more of the background relationship between the couple to believe the level of commitment to the given relationship of the couple.

Description:
Harvey “Wall” Wallbanger—yes his mother actually named him that on purpose—likes to act the simple jock, but he isn't. He is a man who knows what he wants, and right now, he wants one Miss Clara Marsterson. When she refuses his mark to make her his mate, Wall stands unmovable in her path, demanding an explanation. Before he lets her go, she’s going to have to explain to him why she is throwing everything they have away. Wall knows she is hiding something from him and sets his mind and his body to getting the truth. After all, he is a man of many talents…

Clara is a woman who has supported her brother's rise to Alpha, stood by him through everything, and will now do what she can to protect him from those who want to cause him harm. She turns away from the only man who understands her in an attempt to save both the men she loves. To protect them no cost is too high … not even if the price is her own life.

Romance Book Review: G.A. Aiken's How to Drive a Dragon Crazy

Author: G. A. Aiken
Series Connection: Dragon Kin
ISBN: 9781420108903
Genre: Paranormal/ Fantasy/ Shifters/ Dragons
Publisher: Zebra

A five heart review for G.A. Aiken's latest in her Dragon Kin series. There were times I really couldn't stop laughing while I was reading this book and I felt like I had a perpetual smile on my face. Just when a serious moment in the book would take place someone would come in some off the wall comment would be made that would have the reader laughing again. Now this book isn't for everyone. There are some pretty bloody scenes and the dragons and the humans are constantly battling with someone else or each other. Also, while the author does move around a lot in this series, I really do think that it would be more enjoyed if the reader read the other books in the series and became more involved in the lives of the supporting characters.

In How to Drive a Dragon Crazy, the love story of Ã‰ibhear the Blue and Isabail the Dangerous is told. Both character have been supporting cast throughout the series. Ã‰ibhear the Blue is the youngest son of the Dragon Queen and Isabail, or Izzy, is the step-daughter of Ã‰ibhear the Blue's brother.

Izzy has been in love with Ã‰ibhear for years. She's totally given up on him, especially since he called her a whore in front of his entire family because she slept with his cousin. After the of one of his comrades in the last book, Ã‰ibhear went a little crazy and started on a killing spree. He became hard to work with and it caused his family to send him away to one of the most feared units in the Queen's army.

For ten years he stayed away from Izzy and his family, but his commander feels it is time to head home and for Ã‰ibhear to visit his mother. But going back will not only put him face to face with his mother, but also the brothers who appear to hate him and his Izzy, the one woman he could never forget.

Izzy isn't too please when Ã‰ibhear shows up to take her home in his sister's steed. He finds her in the mist of a battle that she wants to complete and really she isn't too happy with him to begin with. After taking away her fun Ã‰ibhear and Izzy head home with a few of his friend and Ã‰ibhear's cousin Brennie.

When they get home Izzy decides to take on a mission, but Ã‰ibhear can't let her go alone and decides to take his group of feared warriors on the trip. Meanwhile it will give the two time to deal with the past and maybe the future.

Description:
Some things never go away, like vile enemies, bad ale, and annoying kin. Honestly, though, I thought I was finished with the one dragon I’d have done anything for: Éibhear the Blue, a big, gorgeous, blue-haired beast who thinks the world belongs to him. The world and, apparently, me.

If Éibhear wants to play the caring hero and travel into the most forsaken of Gods forsaken lands to protect the one woman who doesn’t need it—namely me—I’ll let him. Because while I’m trying to fulfill  a ridiculous quest for a pushy god, I’m going to draw this overconfident warlord much too close, rekindle his fires, and enjoy every minute of his delicious defeat...

Romance Book Review: Lauren Dane's Fire and Rain

Author: Lauren Dane
Series Connection:  Cherchez
ISBN: 9781419912207
Genre: Paranormal/ Werewolf/ Shifter
Publisher: Ellora's Cave

After reading Ascension I decided to go back and read the sequel Fire and Rain, as well. Both really good books, but I think I like Fire and Rain a little better. It is a good idea to read both books to really get into the characters, especially the supporting cast. I would have loved to have seen both Skye and Phillip have their own love stories, as well, but alas it looks like the author stopped at these two. Who knows maybe she'll bring them back. Both books can be found on the Ellora's Cave website, but if you're a Kindle fan the books are also available online in that version. Check out the link above to Lauren Dane's website to see more on where to get copies.

Fire and Rain tells the story of Andreas' third, Laurent. Laurent has been guarding Andreas and his growing family for a long time and loves the idea of finding his own mate and having a few babies of his own. While out on a business trip he and Andreas make a stop to get something to eat and right away Laurent knows that their waitress, Rain is his mate. There are, of course, some big problems. First of all Rain is human and knows nothing about Laurent's world.

Even if she can overcome that problem, there is also the issue that Rain's family isn't one of the nicest families in the world. The last thing Rain needs right now is an overbearing man who wants to control her much like her father and ex-fiance did.

One good thing though, when Laurent and Rain are together, sparks fly and that just might be something to continue exploring.

Description:
Sequel to Ascension.

Rain is a waitress by day, but when not at The Black Cat she’s working hard to make her art career take off. Her paintings are the center of her life until Laurent walks into her cafe. Suddenly she’s dealing with a very alpha male pursuing her and the not-so-very-tiny detail that he happens to be a werewolf.

Laurent Cole has been the Third in command in the Cherchez Wolf Pack for decades. His life is simple, good — but he knows he’s missing something, and when he claps eyes on Rain, he knows what it is.
But their coming together is complicated by the past Rain has worked so hard to keep a secret. Laurent isn’t about to let anyone do his mate any harm. But the world becomes more complicated every day…

Reader Advisory: This book has a spicy, graphic manage scene.

Romance Book Review: Lauren Dane's Ascension

Author: Lauren Dane
Series Connection: Cherchez Clan
ISBN: 9781419910081
Genre: Paranormal/ Werewolf/ Romantic Suspense
Publisher: Ellora's Cave

An oldie but goody for Lauren Dane. I reached deep into my ebook collection for this one.

Kari is minding her own business when she is attacked by a vicious "dog" and sent to the hospital. A few days later thinking she is in full recovery she wakes up find herself in the hands of Andreas and his pack of werewolves. After first she can't believe what these people are telling her. They are a group of werewolves and she was accidental bitten by a young ethusiastic wolf and now she's a werewolf too. And by the way you are also the mate of our king and that makes you Queen.

If that isn't bad enough soon she finds out that while everyone seems to love her in her new pack, someone also wants her dead.

This was one of my first reads, a couple of years ago, by Lauren Dane and I've followed along with this author every since. If you like shifter or werewolf books hers a good story with a mystery to boot.

Description:
Kari’s simple life is tossed upside down. She’s hospitalized after a dog attacks her, her doctor kidnaps her, and now a totally crazy man is telling her that not only is he a werewolf but so is she. And not just any werewolf but the queen!

She soon finds out Andreas is telling the truth. Being a werewolf isn’t so bad when your husband stands well over six feet, is hotter than a movie star and richer than one too. It doesn’t hurt that he adores and spoils her, and the wicked-hot sex is icing on the cake. What girl doesn’t like cake?

But someone in the Cherchez Pack keeps trying to kill her. Kari is happy belonging to a big family for the first time in her life and she’s not going to let one wolf with an axe to grind ruin that. Andreas, Kari and the wolves in the Inner Circle unite to end the threat and find the killer. It’s kill or be killed and Kari intends to do the killing.

Reader Note: This book features an explicit encounter between two males and a manage scene.
