Romance Book Review: G.A. Aiken's Feel The Burn

Author: G.A. Aiken
Series Connection: Dragonkin
ISBN: 978-1420131611
Genre: Paranormal Romance, Dragon Romance, Erotic Romance
Publisher: Zebra Books

Purchase Link: Amazon

Taking place just a few months from book 7 of the Dragonkin series, "Light My Fire", "Feel the Burn" is the story of Kachka Shestakova , Elina's from "Light My Fire" sister, meets her match with King Gaius, a dragon shifter who is on a quest.

In the aftermath of Annwyl's killing of their uncle in the last book, Gaius and his twin sister Aggie now rule their kingdom. They hated their uncle and all those that ruled under them. Gaius is now on a quest to see all of his relatives dead, especially his cousin, who kept his twin sister, Aggie, hostage for years.

While on his quest Gaius runs into an acquaintance, Kachka, at a most opportune time. The two had always had an attraction for each other but as a Daughter of the Steppes, a group that doesn't hold much value of males and a Dragon King (a dragon much less) wouldn't find themselves together. But as the two are drawn together and spend more time together the attraction can't be denied.

If you love action, lots of laughter, blood and gore and more laughter, you'll love this book. G.A. Aiken, otherwise known as Shelly Laurenston, is a master at adding humor and drama to her books. King Gaius isn't one of those snobby royals. He doesn't have a problem getting blood all over him and fighting for his kingdom, which is good because if he was Kachka wouldn't have anything to do with him. Kachka is a warrior and hunter through and through and she's out to make a name for herself.

If I had an issue with the book, it would be that I would have liked to see Kachka and Gaius have more time together to get to know each other. I'm already looking forward to the next book. Although knowing this author, it may not be a story that would be part of this storyline. She doesn't always go in order, we could find her next characters back in time of the beginning of Queen Rhiannon's rein.

Description:
War makes strange bedfellows.

I, Gaius Domitus, one-eyed rebel dragon king of the Provinces, know that better than most, since I have to fight off half my ungrateful family on a regular basis to keep law and order here in my lands. But I never expected to have to consort with a barbarian human woman.

Kachka is beautiful, if you like them fierce—and of course I do. But she keeps complaining about how spoiled and decadent I am, and how a feared Daughter of the Steppes has no time for foolish dragons. I think she likes my eye patch, though. It is quite dashing. With death always at our tails, we take our passion like we take our allies. As they say, love the barbarian you’re with…

Romance Book Review: Alyse Zaftig's An Heir for the Billionaire Werebears

Author: Alyse Zaftig
ASIN: B014AMJXGK
Genre: BBW Romance, Paranormal Shifter Romance, Erotic Romance, Menage Romance

Purchase Link: Amazon

Down on her luck to the point of being evicted from her apartment and no money to continue school, Zeva meets a twin brothers with a proposition that could help her, all she has to do is move in with them and have their child.

Not something you hear everyday, but Zeva takes them up on their offer.

This could be a good story with a little extra work, but it seemed a little abrupt and was written "tell" a story instead of "showing" it. That's just fine for some people, but I would have liked a little more description of the characters and would have loved for Zeva to ask a few more questions before jumping into a situation before she knew what these two "werebears" was.

That being said the story had a lot of potential. There was a good strong base for erotic romance, good scenes in that respect and the overall story theme worked well.

For the most part it was a good, short read with a lot of fun loving.

Description:
A curvy girl down on her luck + two billionaire bear shifters + one evil cousin = a thrilling, steamy ride!

When Zeva leaves her school heartbroken because she can't afford to be in college any more, she runs into a complete stranger. She has no clue that Asher is about to change her life.

Asher and Xavier are the heads of the local sleuth of bears. They have to produce an heir within the next two years or lose it all.

Can Zeva help them, or will Asher and Xavier's evil cousin ruin everything in his quest for power?

Note: If you have ever had a miscarriage, please note that the story does include one.

Bringing back her Men of S.W.A.T. series, JC Wilder presents the sexier side of the men in blue.

In Tactical Pleasure, John Stephens has had it bad for diner owner Miranda White for some time, but she is constantly rebutting his invitiations for a date. When she asks him to help get information about one of his fellow S.W.A.T. members, he won't quit until he makes her his own.

Randa has wanted John forever, but the man has heartache written all over him. He's out with a different girl every month and she isn't ready to be another notch on his belt. So she's made up her mind to take the chance and ask out one of his co-workers. But one kiss from John has her rethinking her choice in dates.

This quick novella gives readers a glimpse into the lives of a close knit crew of sexy police officers and the woman to aim to tame them. These stories were previously published, but if you missed them the first time and looking for a quick sexy read this one will is good for an afternoon read.

Description:
Sometimes a man just has to take matters into his own hands…

Men of S.W.A.T., Book 1
Miranda White has had a crush on S.W.A.T. team sniper John Stephens since he first strode into Fitzy’s Diner. Too bad he’s a serial dater. As a respected business owner, she doesn’t need to become known around town as his next Flavor Of The Month.

What she does need is a date for an upcoming retirement dinner for one of Haven’s finest. If she has anything to say about it, it won’t be the notorious bad boy.

John definitely has something to say about Randa’s plan to date one of his teammates. He’s had the hots for her since he first sank his teeth into her sweet baked confections. She’s sexy and curvy in all the right places, and he fantasizes about tearing that polyester uniform from her lush body and showing her how versatile handcuffs can be.

He’d planned to take his time seducing her, but from their first touch, desire flares hot, hard and primal, temporarily making him forget that the one thing a police officer may not have is time…

Warning: Contains a smoking-hot cop with a talent for keeping his eye on the target, and a sweet-baking heroine who might as well have that target painted on her curvaceous butt. Misuse of police-department-issued equipment, and one very slippery wading pool.

Romance Book Review: Emma Alisyn's Alphonso's Baby

ISBN: n/a
Genre: Paranormal romance, WereBear Romance

Tamar is trained from birth to be a good pastor's daughter. She's always been a good girl, but one slip changes her life forever.

After a one night with a man she's loved all her life, Tamar is floored when he tells her that there is no future for them. So much so, she doesn't tell him she's pregnant and picks up the pieces of her life and moves on to raise her baby, hoping that one day he would grow up and come to her.

Alphonso is stunned when he realizes he's the man who knocked Tamar up and he has wanted to kill all these months. Now he has to convince Tamar to take a chance on him, even though he's hurt her. The only problem is his past has come back to haunt him and what he feared all along may come true.

This is the second book in the Clan Conroy Bride series. I decided to give this one a chance after reading the first one which left me with some issues and worry about whether I really liked this author's style. I am happy to say I gave her a second read. I liked the story and action throughout this book. Tamar is a great character. Although just a human she shows herself to be a strong person with a heart of gold.

Alphonso may have started out as a jerk, but his character picks up throughout the story and they become a good strong couple with an HEA.

I'll be moving on to the next book in the series—Norelle's Bear.

Description:
Bear shifter Alphonso shunned his curvy mate Tamar to protect her from his dark past... but when he discovers he is the father of her baby, will he take the risk in order to raise their child?

Always looking over his shoulder for enemies, Alphonso pushed curvy Tamar away after their one, blazing hot night together. "I'm not relationship material, Tam. Don't get stars in your eyes."Only that one night resulted in a secret child, a beautiful baby girl Tamar has been hiding in plain sight for six months. Waiting patiently for him to see the gosh darn it light already. When he discovers her deception, Alphonso knows he has a choice to make. Continue to allow his past to dictate his future, or take a chance on true love and family.

Tamar isn't certain her childhood love Al will ever see reason- she knows he did some bad stuff. Especially when that bad stuff shows up in the form of a curvy, exotic ex-girlfriend looking for protection. Tamar isn't going to roll over and play dead, though. She's Head Sow in these parts and no one- not the mysterious beauty, not her father's disapproval, and certainly not the enemies waiting in the shadows to strike- are going to claim what belongs to her without a bloody fight.

Alphonso's Baby is the second paranormal bear shifter standalone romance in the Clan Conroy Brides series. If you enjoy emotional, fast paced second chance romance with broody, protective Alpha males and feisty BBW, then this is the story for you. Includes a bonus epilogue double wedding scene.

Romance Book Review: Elianne Adams' Releasing Her Dragon

Stella must get her mate to either claim her or set her free before she loses her human side forever. She's felt him close, but he runs from her constantly.

Brycen knows Stella is close, but he can't do anything until he completes his latest job, once that's over he'll take care of his mate.

The only problem is Brycen doesn't realize that time is running out fast and that's not the only problem the two will face before they can finally come together.

This is the first story I've read by Elianne Adams and from what I've seen so far makes me want to read more of her work. However, while some books are really made to be short and quick with a lot of erotic scenes, this didn't seem like it should have been one. I would have like to have seen more character development, more world building. As it was we only got a glimpse of why we should even like these characters.

Stella seemed like her character was all over the place, which would have been exactly as it should have been because she was going through a crisis, but what is she like normally. Who is she? Brycen was clearly a dominant character, or was he? I'd love to see this novella redone into a full novel.

Description:
Trapped in her own body, she-dragon, Stella Montrose has no choice but to find her mate. Whether he likes it or not, he either has to claim her, or set her free, otherwise she'll lose the ability to shift. Sounds simple, only, every time she gets near him, he disappears.

When Brycen Conners signs on to protect an annoying human woman, he never imagined he'd cross paths with his mate. Once the job is done, he'll do whatever it takes to win her heart. Until then, he has to stay away.

Romance Book Review: Celia Kyle's You're Kitten Me

Author: Celia Kyle
Series Connection: Tiger Tails
ISBN: 9781680399707
Genre: Paranormal Romance, Shifter Romance, WereTiger Romance, WereWolf Romance

Purchase Link: Amazon

With the DoPE on her wolfy butt, Ronnie father sends her back to the pride her best friend belongs to and the man that could be her mate. Ronnie tried everything to keep away, but when her father, the National Wolf Alpha, makes up his mind there is no changing it.

It doesn't take long before the DoPE finds her and puts not only Ronnie in danger, but also her mate.

Braden doesn't know how he would ever be able to take Ronnie as his mate. After all he's an 800 pound tiger and she's just a little wolf. He's not sure how they would ever get through the tugging tail tradition to be fully bound. But as the threat of the DoPE continues over their heads, Ronnie and Braden can't stay away and will do anything to be together, even not fully mate.

Once again Celia Kyle pulls her story together with laughter, great romance and sharp tongues. I already liked Ronnie in the first book of the series "Fast and the Furriest". She came to the rescue when her best friend sounded in distress over the phone. Braden is the strong Beta, but all alpha, who doesn't want to lead and would rather be all the muscle when needed.

This story is fast based and quick on whit and charm. It can be read alone, but you'll want to check out the first in the series to learn the story of the tigers and why it is so important to "pull their tails".

Description:
Want to mate a wolf? It’s easy. Just make him—er, her—howl.

Braden, the second in the national weretiger pride, put Veronica on a plane back to wolf lands for her own protection. With DoPE—the Department of Paraphysical Entities—secretly determined to control shifters through any means necessary, he needed her out of harm’s way. Especially since “any means necessary” includes the forced mating of the daughters of alphas to humans of DoPE’s choice.

But going home didn’t keep Veronica safe—DoPE still went after her—so now she’s back in Wilden… Back with him. With her so close, her delicious scent calling to him, taunting and teasing him at every turn, he’s not sure he can resist the curvaceous, delicious Veronica much longer. Screw it. He can’t. He wants her and he’ll figure out a way to have her—even if he is a tiger and she’s a wolf.

Except DoPE hasn’t given up. They have new tricks up their sleeves—deadly ones—and they’re resolute to test them on Braden. Can he survive their tactics and keep Veronica safe?

When Meredith's program for troubled youth is threatened because a werebear has purchased the building she runs her program in, she has to shore up her courage to get the bear to let her keep running her program. That could be a difficult task if a certain bear realizes exactly who she is.

The law has come down that Liam, alpha werebear, must find a human mate to help the werebears continue their line. When Liam meets Meredith his bear pushes him to take her as his bride.

Meredith may start off as a little weak, but soon she is pushing herself past her boundaries and taking on the bear alpha. Liam is a little grumpy in the beginning but soon turns out to be a caring mate. The characters are well developed and pull together well.

As far as the story goes, for the most part it went together well, however, without spoiling the story, at one point I wasn't happy with one scene that almost ruin the whole book for me. In the end there is a HEA and readers are ready to check out the next story in the series.

Description:
Secrets. Desire. Surprise pregnancy.

Curvy Meredith is hiding in plain sight. A gardening teacher for troubled teens, she needs the new owner of the old YWCA building to renew her lease. Her non-profit after school program can’t fund a more expensive location. Steeling herself for a confrontation, she discovers the owner is Liam Conroy, the Alpha Bear whose father was murdered fifteen years ago…

Liam doesn't know his mate is the daughter of his father's killer. All he knows is he wants the gentle, courageous beauty- and that she is an answer to a problem plaguing his Den. Only he senses she is hiding something from him, something that could threaten their fledgling matebond.

When he discovers her deception, will he reject her... and their baby?

A 41K standalone steamy werebear shifter romance suited for readers who like BBW and tall, dark and handsome alpha males. First in the Clan Conroy Bears series.
