I'll be honest I don't really like books about rock stars or Reality TV, so when this book was sent I was a little worried. I really like Cate Masters work, however, so I gave it a try and wound up loving it.

Jet Trently is a down and out rocker who has been relegated to doing one of those bachelor shows. If that weren't bad enough this was the second season for the show.

Billie is a journalist for a music magazine and has been sent to California to write up the show and keep up a blog about the show. She couldn't be less happy about it. Finding no way around getting out of going Billie backs her bags and heads to California.

When she gets there she goes crazy having to follow show and a has been star, who she knows can do a lot better if he just would take on some new music. Soon her blog posts are getting all kinds of attention from readers and fans. She can't convince her boyfriend/editor to let her come home and everyday she falls more and more for the star of the show.

Jet is a charmer, no doubt about that. He does his best to keep everyone happy even though he doesn't really want anything to do with the Reality TV show. All he wants to do is play his music. When Billie comes along she frustrates him and excites him at the same time and he discovers she just what he needs to kick him in the pants and get him motivated again. Now if he can just spend some time with her without the constant interruptions and screaming women.

This is a wonderful read full of insightful dialog and a great hero and heroine. Sure some would say that some of the characters are cliche, but that's just what makes them so much fun. Definitely an enjoyable read you won't want to put down.

Description:
Can success trap you at Rock Bottom?

For rocker Jet Trently, success means playing the same platinum-selling hits ad nauseum. Philly rock journalist Billie Prescott thrives on covering the latest music releases. They touch her heart as his music did when she was fifteen. When Jet touches her heart as well, will the reality show ruin the real thing?

This story is ripe with well developed characters. Both Wynter and Nelson are stubborn and determined individuals set out to keep their plans in order and to make sure their goals are reached. At some point this story is dark and not for the faint of heart, so if your looking for a fun loving romance this won't be one. However, you will find this book filled with strong descriptive scenes and packed with drama.

Here's the scoop—Ellie decides its time to leave her live-in boyfriend because she's not happy in her relationship. Since the boyfriend is the beloved high school coach the whole town gets upset at her. So upset that they boycott her family's restaurant.

Her long time friend and widower of her best friend, Noah, comes to her rescue. For the past several months the two have been getting closer, but Ellie never noticed the way he look at her until she left her former boyfriend. Now everyone is getting the wrong idea and giving her an even worse time.

Noah has just decided it is time to get over the death of his former wife. He's noticed Ellie, but since she was taken he never did anything about it. Now that they are both free he's decided he's going to take a chance. Well maybe...but first he needs to make sure he can really get involved like he wants.

Can the two stop letting everything outside of their relationship get in their way and fall in love?

Nicely written contemporary romance. I loved the fact that the author worked on the insecurities that this relationship would have on both the hero and the heroine. The hero clearly adored his wife before she died and has to come to grips with moving on. And then there's Ellie, whose character I just loved, has to figure out how she is ever going to fill the shoes of her best friend with the man who loves them both.

Description:
Taking chances is never easy--especially when the whole town is watching.

Ellie Morgan is trying to stay below the radar in a small town. Her break-up with her football coach boyfriend and growing interest in her best friend's  widower are grist to the local gossip mill. Her friendship with the local psychic and the return of her prodigal mother are the cherries on the cake.

Add a meddling preacher, a water-loving dog and a man trying to shake off his past, and Ellie's got more than enough on her plate in her quest for
love.

Wow! All the way to book 24 of the Cattle Valley Series.

In Shooting Star readers are reintroduced to Brac, the Hollywood soap star that is friends with Kit and Hawk. Brac comes to Cattle Valley after the scandal that has him fleeing Hollywood long enough to get things cleared up. With reporters following, Cattle Valley sheriff, Ryan, assigns deputy Al Jessup to watch over Brac.

Brac is immediately attracted to Jessup, but Jessup has a lot of things he needs to work out in his head before he can start a relationship. In the meantime someone isn't too happy with Brac and takes a shot at him.

Knowing there is only one person he trusts with the man he's falling in love with life, Jessup calls his best friend to come to come to guard Brac.

Nice installment to the Cattle Valley series. There isn't as much high emotion in this book as there could have been if it were just a little bit longer. Jessup's background story had the potential to get into more depth in character development then Carol Lynne normally allows with her heros in the Cattle Valley series. The series story lines as usually short. Had there been one that could have used some extra time and dedication to characters it would have been this one. That isn't to say this novel was bad or short-changed readers.

Plus this is one to keep up with the series, because I have a feeling we will be seeing some of the characters again in another installment in the series.

Description:

Fleeing Hollywood from damaging and false tabloid reports, Brac Riesling hides out with his friends Kit and Hawk in Cattle Valley. Although he believes he’s simply evading intrusive paparazzi, danger lurks just around the corner.

After years spent as a secret soldier for the United States government, new Cattle Valley deputy, Al Jessup believes shielding the television heartthrob from nosy reporters will be an easy assignment. Becoming infatuated with Brac isn’t part of the plan, and Jessup struggles to remain professional despite the temptation Brac provides.

When Jessup gives in to his desire and Brac nearly pays for the moment of passion with his life, Jessup vows not to make the same mistake twice. He calls in a favour from the only man he trusts with Brac’s life, James “Priest” Evans. Priest agrees to guard Brac at a secret location while Jessup searches for the unknown gunman. Jessup’s resolve to put a halt to the budding relationship with Brac is tested when he witnesses the easy-going relationship Brac and Priest have formed after only a few days.

Interview with author Melodie Campbell

Author of Rowena Through The Wall
Website Address: http://www.melodiecampbell.com/

Interview:
RBS: Tell us a little about yourself.

Melodie: I hate goat cheese and housework. But you might be more interested in my writing background.

I’ve been a bank manager, marketing director, college instructor, comedy writer, and possibly the worst runway model ever.  I made a really, really bad decision several years ago, possibly the worst decision ever made by a human not officially insane.  A producer from fledgling HBO saw my play Burglar for Coffee, labeled it “completely nuts,” and offered me a spot writing pilots, which I stupidly turned down.  I mean, leave this fabulous land of the ice and snow for California?  Did I mention I was not officially insane?

RBS: How old were you when you first decided to sit down and write your first book?

Melodie: Sixteen.  I wrote a children’s book called Horatio Hedgehog, which won a prize and was displayed at the local library.

RBS: What was your first novel ever published, be it e-book or print?

Melodie: I have had over 30 short stories published in commercial magazines, and over 100 humor columns published in North American newspapers and magazines, but Rowena Through the Wall is the first novel I have finished, let alone gotten published.

RBS: It can be difficult to get a book published. Who or what was the greatest encouragement you had during the non-published times?

Melodie: I kept getting shorter fiction published and winning awards.  And people told me my writing cracked them up.  That told me I really should be looking to write a novel.

RBS: What is your favorite genre to write? Why?

Melodie: Alternate world fantasy/romance with a lot of humor.  I also like to write hot – really, I want to write adventure novels for women…something to provide escape into another world, just for a little while.

RBS: Tell us about your current release?

Melodie: Rowena Through the Wall is an alternate world fantasy/romance, with lots of swordplay, magic and – well – sex!  Rowena is thrown into a primitive world, and uses her modern wiles to survive.  Midwest Book Review described it as hot and hilarious – I hope your readers find it so, because that would make me very happy.

RBS: Who or what were your influences when you begin to write your newest release?

Melodie: One day I was sitting at work, feeling totally overwhelmed with my job, parental care giving and family responsibilities, and thought – if I could walk through that wall over there into another world, I would.  Rowena got her start that night.  The setting was a given; my late cousin Tony Glegg-Hill was a Viscount, so I wrote from my family knowledge of this region of Britain.

RBS: What does a typical writing day look like for you?

Melodie: I’m the General Manager for Crime Writers of Canada, the national professional association for mystery and crime writers, so my writing day extends well into night!  My family calls it ‘the black hole of writing’.

RBS: Do you have a favorite hero from one of your books? What is it about him that makes him stand out?

Melodie: Actually, I like my villain, Cedric.  He is the epitome of a clever, sexy bastard, who wants Rowena for himself and will stop at nothing to get her.  He’s a warrior, yet a powerful master of magic – and frankly, who wouldn’t want to be desired to that extent?

RBS: Do you have a favorite heroine from one of your books? What is it about her that makes her stand out?

Melodie: Rowena is the girl I wish I were (yup, in looks, but also in gutsy, uninhibited fashion too).  She isn’t afraid to take risks, or to make a fool of herself, but is kind to people and animals.  My kind of girl.

RBS: Who is your favorite author? Did they give you any kind of inspiration in your own writing?

Melodie: List of favorites here:  Mary Stewart, Janet Evanovich, Charlaine Harris.
Mary Stewart – for writing My Brother Michael, the book I measure all others to.
Janet Evanovich – for her zany humor; she has led the way for other wacky writers like me.
Charlaine Harris – Her Dead Until Dark series is wonderfully funny, imaginative and daring.  I’d love to meet her some day.

RBS: What's coming up on your book schedule in the next year?

Melodie: The sequel to Rowena!  Rowena and the Dark Lord is taking shape and readers can expect the danger and magic to ramp up.  Also, The Goddaughter, a comic mob caper is in the works.

Yesterday Melodie's cracked the Amazon Top 100 for Time Travel Romance!

Psychiatrist Kate More is doing a little research for her next book. Do men prefer the naughty girl or the good girl? Finding the man she is looking for as a test subject Kate meets Adam. Being a little less than honest with Adam may not be such a good idea and while she has her reservations about what she is doing Kate keeps up the charade just a little to long.

Adam, too has been a little less than honest with Kate, but he really needs her help now and after hearing more about Kate he begins to wonder a little more about her.

I had my reservations about this book in the beginning. The whole mess seemed get more and more like an explosion ready to happen. A little bit into the book, the plot evens out a bit and gets better. Nice, sweet romance book.

Description:
Naughty or nice? What do men really want?

Adam Tyler is gorgeous and charismatic, but his millionaire status  attracts the wrong kind of woman. When his sister places a personals  ad to help him meet a nice girl and settle down, he's downright furious--he enjoys his "singlehood." The ad attracts a pretty school teacher, but meeting her is the last thing he wants to do. However, when faced with his sister's persistence, he resigns himself to a dinner date. After all, A date with a quiet, unassuming teacher might be an interesting diversion. One evening won't jeopardize his coveted bachelorhood.

Writer Kate Moore thinks the male subject is perfect. She'll first meet this eligible bachelor as "Kate the schoolteacher"--sweet, mildly appealing, and very, very nice. Then she'll meet him as "Katrina"-- exciting, sexy, and very, very naughty. She can test her theory, quietly disappear, and settle back with another bestseller under her belt.

What could go wrong?

Romance Book Review: Sweet Possession

Author: Maya Banks
Series Connection: Sweet Series
ISBN:  978-0425239070
Genre: Romantic Suspense/ Contemporary Romance/ Erotic Romance
Publisher: Berkley Heat

♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

For some Maya Banks fans this book may not be as loved as some of her others in this series. Pretty much the Sweet series started out being a submissive/BDSM type of series, with the exception of Sweet Seduction which featured Julie and Tucker, the books were pretty hard core sex with a lot of interaction in the BDSM world.

In Sweet Possession, Maya Banks brings in two characters, that while the sex scenes are hot and very passionate, they are pretty much vanilla compared to the other books in the series. While I believe that Maya Banks is one of the best in the Erotic Romance genre, and does a great job in writing the very erotic BDSM style of books, I'm just as happy with her less than erotic books, as well.

In Sweet Possession Conner Malone, Faith's brother, has met his match. Conner has been asked by his father to protect a pop diva, Lyric Jones, when she comes to stay in Houston for a couple of weeks. Lyric is being stalked by a fan and there is a worry that the stalking may turn violent.

From the beginning Conner is attracted to Lyric, but he can't help but be attracted to the superstar. Lyric isn't all that happy with the disapproving looks she see from Conner either. Despite the fact they don't like each other much they much they resign themselves to being together. Soon Conner can't think of a better place he'd like to be and for the first time Lyric is learning to trust someone.

As usual, Maya Banks' writing shines in Sweet Possession. She creates a world of strong characters and real people. There are scenes where readers will laugh out loud with the antics of Lyric and her three new friends and the way Conner reacts those scenes.

Description:
She’s a singer who lives for the spotlight—and can’t resist her adoring fans…

Outrageous and out-of-control, Lyric Jones is a spoiled pop star who lives hard and fast, always outrunning her past and the nightmares that haunt her. She’s used to getting what she wants—groupies included—because she can’t stand to be alone. So in bed, it’s the more the merrier, even if it means closing off the deepest part of herself…

He’s a hands-on bodyguard—and a one-woman man.

There is nothing Connor Malone wants to do less than babysit the celebratty songstress while she’s on vacation. But part of him relishes taming Lyric and showing her what it’s like to be possessed—body and soul—by one man. And though Lyric’s crazy antics nearly drive Connor to the edge, his quiet intensity penetrates her defenses, leaving them both vulnerable to the secrets that could topple Lyric from the stage.

Romance Book Review: Dangerous Pleasure

Author: Lora Leigh
Series Connection: Bound Hearts Series
ISBN: 978-0312541873
Genre: Erotic Romance/ Romantic Suspense
Publisher: St. Martin's Griffin

Purchase this book here through Amazon

While this book is part of the Bound Hearts Series it could really be read as a stand alone or with just the previous book in the series. Apart from characters from the last book, Guilty Pleasure, Dangerous Pleasure only makes a vague reference to the first part of the stories.

While I enjoyed hearing about the intrigue of the Mustafa family in these last two books, I miss the previous theme of the Sinclair Club and all the other characters that are often brought back in those stories. This book, as well as Guilty Pleasure, held a lot more of a suspense feel to the story and in a lot of ways that is good for the series, which often times was too centered around sex.

In this story we learn more about Paige, Khalid's half-younger sister. Paige has spent a lifetime loving Abram, Khalid's half brother (but no relation to Paige). As with Khalid, Abram has a lot of ghosts in his life. Already his father has killed Abram's first two wifes. Abram is trying very hard to stay away from Paige, the woman who owns his soul. He knows that if his father found out about his feelings for Paige she would be in grave danger.

Try as he might to stay away, however, his father decides to kidnap Paige anyway and Abram must save her before they are both killed. Lots of action and sex with a weary hero who just wants his life to be able to love the woman he wants and forget about his homeland, by forming a fresh start in America.

I wouldn't say that this book was bad or poorly written, just not what I'm looking for in this series. I'm hoping the next will bring the readers back to the Sinclair Club. Plenty of intrigue can happen there if the author wants to keep the Romantic Suspense going in the series.

Description:
Abram Mustafa faces the test of his life and his heart when his terrorist father kidnaps Paige Galbraithe, the one woman who has always been able to touch Abram's soul. With Paige's life now in danger, Abram knows that his plans for escape from the only home he has ever known have suddenly become more imperative than ever.

Paige has always wondered if the dark, cool and mysterious Abram el Hamid Mustafa is hiding a wicked side...a wicked side that will allow her to explore the kind of pleasure she has dreamed of. But when she is kidnapped by his father, she finds that she must trust Abram with more than her fantasies. Paige must trust him with her life...and her heart.

Secret, dangerous desires will bind Abram and Paige together as the forces surrounding them try to tear them apart.

While looking for some information about his heritage, Jake visits a small town in Maine to meet the woman who he is to understand is his grandmother. Upon his arrival he finds that the woman he believes is his grandmother has Alzhemier's and a woman who might be his mother just recently died. At their home he finds "Megan" a frigthened woman he isn't quite sure of what to make of.

As he unravels the mystery of his heritage, Jake realizes he wants to find out what is going on with the woman living in the house. She's puts up a strong front, but is definitely afraid of something.

For one year "Megan" has been on the run from a murderer she believes has the clout that even the police won't be able to save her from. She comes to this small town and moves to the most obscure place she can find. She keeps away from as many people as possible so no one knows anything about her. When she starts getting calls from the murderer she knows it is only a matter of time before he will find her.

The premise behind the story isn't a new one, but the well written descriptions behind the scenes of the dialog takes the reader into the minds of both the hero and heroine enough to keep the story interesting. In some of the scenes the readers can feel the fear pouring off "Megan", as well as feel her indecision as to wether to trust the handsome stranger that comes into her life. Maybe if this were real life these two very different people wouldn't fall in love in the end, but you'd like to think they made some kind of connection after the experiences they go through.

The book is well worth the low price of admission into "Megan" and Jake's world.

Description:
A woman hiding from her identity. A man trying to find his.

After witnessing a murder, Megan Summers ran until she reached the remote coastal village of Victory Cove. She has a new name, but she knows it’s only a matter of time before the murderer catches up with her.

Jake Grogan has come to town to unravel the mystery of his heritage. Instead of finding his grandmother at Wakefield House, he discovers an attractive stranger who will do anything to get him off her doorstep. Trapped by a storm, he’s forced to stay the night with Megan—a woman who keeps a handgun under her bed and closes herself off from the outside world.

Jake tries to dig deeper into his past, but he’s distracted by his fear for Megan’s safety and his growing feelings for her. Danger is drawing near and he’ll do anything to keep her safe. Will it be enough to help them survive the endless night.

About the author from the back of her book:
A natural born writer, Maureen Miller was nonetheless taken down a different course by life. As a programmer in an industry that required constant travel, Maureen sought escape by making use of her laptop and writing exotic tales—escapism at its best. Listening to the airport speaker rattle off another flight delay, Maureen rattled off another romantic suspense novel.

Her first book, Widow's Tale, was nominated for a Golden Heart Award by the Romance Writers of America. A fan of gothic romance, Maureen enjoys the formula of danger, romance and inclement weather, although there is no accounting for her third novel, Rogue Wave, which basks in the Hawaiian sun.

A fallen woman must decide to stay down, or rise and fight…

Elijah McKinnon has been found innocent of a heinous murder, but it doesn’t erase the hellish years in prison he endured. He boards the train to Pittsburgh a changed man, certain he will never feel free until he’s wreaked revenge on the brother who ruined his life.
