Romance Book Review: E.R. Davis' Lunes and Lords Series

Author: E.R. Davis
Series Connection: Lunes and Lords
ISBN: N/A
Genre: Paranormal, Dragons, Erotic Romance
Publisher: Amazon Digital Services, Inc.

Purchase Link: Amazon

NOTE: This is a continual series and must be read together in sequence. The books are sold separately or can be found in a series set.

As a child Cora Phillips heard all the stories about her family history. The women in her family line were all practiced the Lune tradition of being a dragon protector. Her mother, her grandmother, her great grandmother all practiced, but Cora wants no part of it. She has no interest in following in their steed. She has successfully kept away from any witchy deeds, until now.

For the past year, since she was brought back to life after a terrible fire, Cora has been have terrible nightmares about fire and dragons. Taking her sister's advice she decides to meditate on the problem and get in touch with her inner-self. On the first try however she runs into a little mishap. She calls two dragons to her and now she's stuck with them and their dragonlords.

She didn't want one dragon, much less two and is ready to wash her hands of both of them, however forces are against her all the way and she finds that leaving the dragons and the men who keep them isn't as easy as she had hoped it would be.

This was a hard series to rate. As I read the back cover description to the first book I was intrigued. The concept sounded interesting and I liked the ideas of the dragons in modern day. So far so good. I even didn't have a problem with the heroine begin against the idea of having her own dragon. Really the world is different from ancient times and everyone wants to be modern about their choices in life. So no problem there. I even like the idea of trying to figure out which was the good hero or the bad guy. The first book allowed for either way.

I wasn't aware however that the book was a serial and you must read the others to complete the story. When I did, I quickly purchase the three book set (better bargain price on Amazon) and continued to read. I thought it was strange that a year had gone by and there seemed to be some strangeness in the time laps for me, but okay we move on. The story continues and Cora grudgingly continues with the quest not knowing if she wants to continue or wash her hands of everything. A little more character development might go a long way.

So while I had some issues with the Cora, I loved the dragons and the hero of the story. Still an okay read and the price is right as long as you purchase all the books. It would have been better as one complete novel rather than three.

Description:

DRAGON CALL

Insomnia does things to a girl’s head, drives her to perform acts she would have scoffed at if not for a bad case of desperation. Yoga. Meditation. Getting in touch with her inner Lune via witchy rituals she doesn’t even realize she’s enacting until she’s naked in the dark with an aggressive dragon…or two.

Cora Phillips has spent her life denying the Lune tradition but with two dragons--and their masters--hounding her with mating claims, her denying days have come to an end. Like it or not, the dragons have come.

And she doesn’t like it one bit.

DRAGON DANCE

A dragon knows how to find his mate no matter how far she runs, and Lune-witch Cora’s dragon knows exactly how to lure her back for another dance with his master. Returning to New York on a mission to save her Dragonkeeper from his own self-destruction, she discovers this waltz is even more complicated than the first.

When a Lune has three different partners, which one leads?

DRAGON BOUND

Wrists bound to a hotel bed. Wrong dragon in her head. Flavor of fire on her tongue. That’s how the end begins.

Cora can’t run anymore. Not ever again. The mysteries of her life, the heritage she’s denied, the lovers and enemies she’s fled have all caught up to her, ready to eat her from the inside out if she doesn’t embrace her birthright, bind her draconic subjects, and rule like the queen she was born to be.

Nice start for this new series. Faith is no push over and I like that in her character. Kane is an interesting character for an alpha, readers will have to make their mind up if he is strong enough for the job. I also like the demons in this one. This should turn out to be a pretty good series and there are plenty of siblings to keep the story going for a while.

Description:
Faith's life has always balanced in two worlds—the normal human world and the supernatural. Now she has to choose between the two.

Faith York is human, but she has psychic powers, which is a little odd since neither of her parents have paranormal abilities. She instantly fell in love with the entire family, but especially Kane, the oldest son who is next in line to be Alpha. Unfortunately, Kane doesn't see Faith the same way she sees him. Heartbroken, she leaves town.

To complicate matters further, her psychic powers intensify and she begins to have visions of an upcoming demon Armageddon. Then she learns she was switched at birth, and she has a half-brother…who is half demon.

Faith must be stronger than she ever believed possible, and maybe in the process, she can trust herself to give Kane another chance.

In continuation to the Roxie's Protector's series Marisa Chenery brings readers book 4 and the related series Wulf's Den.

After accidentally finding his mate while stopped at a stoplight in the middle of a busy San Francisco intersection, Skylar has every intention of telling exact what he is and what it would mean to mate with him. As a werewolf of more than 1,000 years old he is one of the foretold one's, Roxie's, protectors and has vowed to protect her at all cost, but more than that anyone who mates with a werewolf is in for a life change. Aside from the whole there aren't suppose to be werewolves in real-life, there is the fact that once connected there is no turning back you are joined with your mate for life...a very long life.

Braelyn is a supermodel for Victoria Secret and on a vacation at home when she meets the very sexy Skylar. Once she finds out that he's a bodyguard of sorts, she wonders if he might not just want to become her new boyfriend, but also if he might be able to help her with a stalker.

I almost completely missed this continuation of the series, which would have been disappointing because I like the general theme and quick reads of both Roxie's Protectors and Wulf's Den. Luckily I happen to notice that the new book in the series, Kye's Heart, came out last week at Liquid Silver Books.

Skylar's Devotion didn't disappoint. This is a series that should really be read from the beginning because each of the books are short and the full story is told the snippets in each book. It won't take readers long to catch up. This book, however, only tells a little bit of the secondary series story and concentrates mostly on Skylar and his new ladylove Braelyn. Enjoy.

Description:
A famous Victoria's Secret fashion model, Braelyn comes home to visit her parents after being away for a year. On a shopping trip, a man on a motorcycle at the red light snags her attention while she crosses the street. When she draws even with him, he flips open the visor of his helmet, and she instantly forgets what she's doing. A blast from a car horn makes her aware she's standing in the middle of the crosswalk, and she quickly gets moving.

Skylar follows the beautiful blond with his gaze, watching where she goes. Sitting at a red light is not the place he expects to run into his would-be mate, but there she was. Determined not to let her get away, he follows her. He finds it hard enough to deal with her being mortal and not knowing anything about werewolves, but the bigger problem is the stalker who wants to do his famous mate more harm than good.

A great fan of Jayne Ann Krentz from way back, but I sadly say I can't give this book 5 hearts because it lost something for me when I realized this is about a paranormal mixture of her Arcane Society's two worlds of her Krentz/Castle work. That probably doesn't make any sense, but here goes.

The characters in this book have psychic paranormal powers but yet the Arcane Society is never mention or any relationship to Jones and Jones as in the Krentz's Arcane Society books. There is a whole series of crystals used in the books as they are used in the Castle Arcane Society books. Basically it holds both the principals of the contemporary and the future series. It establishes the the use of the crystals in this contemporary timeline, but really has no connection to Arcane. That was a little disturbing because I kept waiting for a Jones to appear in the story. It was just too closely related to the other stories without establishing any connection.

That said. The story and characters were good and I liked the sexual chemistry and psychic connection between Abby and Sam.

Abby has a special ability that allows her to unlock a book psychically so that the secrets inside can be read. She is the only one around who can unlock a book that has some dangerous information inside. There are many people who want this book and they all know that Abby is the only one who can open its secrets.

Sam is one of the people who is looking for the book. He knows that Abby can help him and it just so happens that he can help Abby stay safe from the bad people who want the book. While the two try to find the book and try to stay safe the realize there is a deep connection between the two, but Abby has a hard time with trust and Sam will have to work really hard if he is going to get the girl in the end.

Description:
A rare book. An ancient code. An all-new novel from the New York Times-bestselling master of passion and the paranormal.

Within the pages of very rare books some centuries old lie the secrets of the paranormal. Abby Radwell’s unusual psychic talent has made her an expert in such volumes—and sometimes taken her into dangerous territory. After a deadly incident in the private library of an obsessive collector, Abby receives a blackmail threat, and rumors swirl that an old alchemical text known as The Key has reappeared on the black market.

Convinced that she needs an investigator who can also play bodyguard, she hires Sam Coppersmith, a specialist in paranormal crystals and amber—“hot rocks.” Passion flares immediately between them, but neither entirely trusts the other. When it comes to dealing with a killer who has paranormal abilities, and a blackmailer who will stop at nothing to obtain an ancient alchemical code, no one is safe.
