I have long been a fan of Lena Matthews, but this book has to top her list of one of her best. The characters are real and the story line up to date and current. I'm impressed with her writing style bringing humor throughout the story in one scene and having the characters face near tragedy with dignity in the next.

Tisha isn't a morning person, especially on her days off work, but when the little girl from across the street comes knocking at her door to ask a favor she can't resist. As she gets to know the young girl, Cami, and her adoptive uncle Jonah Tisha falls more and more in love with the girl and her uncle. The more time she spends with them the more she wants to become part of their family.

Jonah knows his first meeting with Tisha didn't go that well. The second was quickly getting out of hand as well, but soon he was falling in love with the sassy hairdresser. It appeared she was as interested in him as he was in her. The question is, is she ready to take on a single father and an energetic young girl?

Romance Book Review: Shadow of Moonlight

After reading Myth of Moonlight and writing a review about it I contacted by a reader who said if I liked the first book that I was sure to like the second in the series. She was hoping that generating interest in the 2007 series, which was released in one print book in 2008 (see below), would convince the two authors who wrote the books to get together again and write the continuation of the series. Not sure that will work here, but I would like to throw in my two cents worth.

After just completing the second book I have to say that I did like it as much as the first. Shadow of Moonlight continues where Myth of Moonlight ended taking the readers about four months ahead telling Remy and Jace's story. I knew after reading the first book that these two would make a great pair and the second book didn't disappoint.

Remy is a strong female warrior who is second in her pack. She works hard to keep her alpha and the pack protected. Jace is the pack's seer. He keeps the pack guarded in his own way. Through his dreams he can tell pieces of the packs future. Unfortunately he can't see all. Everything needs to be decoded and Jace doesn't always have the all important decoder ring. A truth that Remy can't help but keep needling Jace about.

There has always been an attraction between the two that they have never acted on. Jace knows immediately that Remy is his mate. Convincing her might be a little hard however.

Meanwhile there is a lot going on with the pack. The pack numbers are dwindling and the alpha believes that one answer to the she-wolves not being able to get pregnant is to try to make a pact with the coyotes weres. This decision hasn't been too popular on either side. If that isn't enough trouble, Jace starts dreaming of a human female who is pregnant with a were child. From his dream he figures that the pack must find her and protect her. He's just not sure what the rest of his dream of the future means.

Of course at the end it is open for the series to continue. It would be great to see if this could be in the mix in the future. Both Lena Matthews and Liz Andrews seem to be moving forward with their respective careers, so who knows what will happen.

Romance Book Review: Pet Me

I know it is still early, but this book is the funniest I've read so far this year and probably will remain at the top of the list until next year. I laughed all the way through.

Drusilla is asked to take care of her niece's goldfish while the little girl is away and the fish winds up dying. Afraid of hurting her young niece's feelings Drusilla goes on a quest to find a new fish that looks exactly the same, only to find that someone else was purchasing the exact one she wanted.

The rest of the book is a comedy come to life with lots of great sex in the middle. As Drusilla gets to know Cormack, the man who also wants to purchase the fish, and their relationship sores. Kudos to Amarinda, who is a fabulous writer of books, and blogs alike.

Romance Book Review: Cougar Challenge Series

In the Cougar Challenge series, Publisher Ellora's Cave brought together seven different authors to tell the story of seven women who dream of dating a younger man, but don't have the guts to go out and do it without the encouragement of their friends.

The first story, Play It Again Sam, by Samantha Kane, tells the story about how the ladies met at a erotic romance convention becoming quick friends and telling their dreams to each other. When the ladies return home one of the ladies starts a blog called Tempt the Cougar where all the ladies go on and talk about their love lives. Monica is tired of talking and ready for action, so she sets a challenge to all her fellow friends and the series begins.

Now that everything is set in motion, first Monica and then the rest of the ladies put their words into action and one by one meets the younger man of their dreams. Each of the stories are different in their own right. There are a lot of different erotic genres in each of the stories. Several of the stories have m/f/m story lines. One has a lot of BDSM and includes a f/f scene with multiple partners.

As with all series there are the really good story lines and there are others which are okay, but don't press the right buttons for me. It isn't necessary to read all of the books in the series, but it was nice to see all of the stories evolve into one another. Generally all of the stories are a fun read and those who like erotic romance will enjoy the read. I particularly enjoyed Assumed the Position by Mari Carr and learning all about Karma Sutra positions.

My View:
I was reading some romance notes today and ran across Vonna Harper's name and was thinking about some of the books I've read by her, so I opened my e-book files on my laptop and found this story. It is from a few years back, but not a bad quick read.

To be honest I can't quite get the paranormal angle the publishing company credits this with, but I'll let them keep it. The isn't a bad book, but a little too short for my taste. I liked the characters. Lon is a strong hero, but Magara's character is a great heroine . The book follows a BDSM theme a bit, but not too much for those that aren't comfortable with the scene. Generally Refuge is a quick read that offers hot sex scenes on an even hotter night. Perfect for the cold winter nights when you need something to warm you up.
