Rafa is career military and facing the prospect of discharge after being wounded and losing his hand and part of his leg. Not knowing exactly what he is going to do next he accepts a blind date invitation where he meets Emily. Soon he may not know where his life is going to go in the future, but he knows he wants Emily included in it.

First the two need to get past their family, Rafa's old girlfriend and an unexpected job offer.

This book took a little getting into. I liked the characters and the issues they were tackling, but where I thought Rafa as a special forces leader, would be a little more alpha and Emily as a psychologist would have a little more of a handle on all her own problems, as well as those who were conspiring against her relationship.

Description:

Rafael Carpenter left behind everything in Afghanistan when his unit was nearly annihilated. Now he’s back home, trying to fit the pieces back together, and learning to survive with the injuries that nearly took his life.

Still recovering from the loss of her boyfriend a year ago, curvy Emily isn’t ready to meet another man, even if one would have her. But her best friend Christa isn’t the sort to take ‘no’ for an answer, and when Emily walks into a blind date and finds Rafael Carpenter waiting for her, she’s left speechless. And intrigued.

Two wounded hearts collide, but will either of them be willing to let go of their pasts in order to forge a new future together?
