Romance Book Scene: Book Review: Lindsey Brookes' Hero of Her Heart

Author: Lindsey Brookes
ISBN: N/A
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Publisher: Brooks

As children and teenagers Bethany loved Tanner. She followed him everywhere, until her parents moved to Florida. Ten years later, Bethany returns to her home town to accept an award and upon seeing Tanner again falls madly in love all over again. Only this time it is ten times worse because she's looking for a lot more than Tanner can give.

Tanner's always know he wanted to be a police officer just like his dad, but unlike his dad, he doesn't want to leave a family behind when he dies on duty. So he decides early in life he isn't getting married no matter what. He kept the promise to him self too. Now the sheriff of his home town, he keeps his entanglments brief. No woman in his life to hold him down.

That includes Bethany, his childhood friend that has grown up into a raving beauty. He is extremely attractive to her, but he can't let himself get involved no matter what. But the best laid plans and all.

Can Tanner convince Bethany that he's had a change of heart or will she move on?

This story is a little old fashioned and over done, however not badly written. My main complaint was that the hero spent so much time trying to be apart from the heroine that we never really get to see them fall in love. He's more like in lust through the whole book, taken in by her change in appearance, but not falling for the woman underneath. That might have been corrected if the pair had a chance to have have story time together learning about who they each were and how they had filled their lives since seeing each other last.

Otherwise, this is a well written book worth of a Harlequin hit.

Description:
From the moment Bethany Warner was born, Sheriff Tanner Montgomery was on the run. And he was only four at the time. Their mothers' matchmaking efforts finally ended when Bethany's family moved away. Now, ten years later, she's coming back to Ruby Creek and his mother is up to her old tricks again.

Tanner is happy with his life just the way it is. No emotional entanglements. No wife or child to worry about leaving behind if something should happen to him in the line of duty. Then Bethany returns, all grown up and sexier than sin. Now he's on the run for a whole new reason.

Growing up, Bethany idolized Tanner. He was the HERO OF HER HEART. But to him she'd been nothing more than a tag-a-long little kid. Too tall, too thin, with unruly curls and teeth she could whistle through.

That was then. Now she's coming back to Ruby Creek, a successful, confident businesswoman, and no longer the ugly duckling she had once been. Can Bethany convince Tanner to give love a chance? And if she does, will it be everything she had always dreamt it would be?
